Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the new round of British anti-Russia sanctions

We were puzzled by the decision announced by the British government on December 10, 2020 to impose sanctions against three Russian individuals and a unit of the National Guard over the alleged human rights violations in the Chechen Republic.

We regard this unsubstantiated decision as vivid proof of the British authorities’ unwillingness to abandon its policy of confrontation in relations with Russia. Of course, this politically motivated move will affect Russian-British interstate relations.

In light of the principle of reciprocity, we retain the right to take commensurate response measures.
