Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at the expanded meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council, Sochi, October 10, 2017
We continue the meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council.
First of all, I once again welcome all of you and all participants in this meeting, as well as representatives of the media.
We just finished the restricted attendance meeting. The discussion was held in a frank and productive atmosphere. We exchanged views on a wide range of issues on the international agenda, regional affairs and development issues, and ways to strengthen cooperation within the CIS. This discussion again demonstrated that our countries take similar approaches to most international problems; they share common grounds on many issues. I think it is important that, while coordinating and harmonising our positions, we continue to broadcast to the international community a common approach to a number of important issues on the agenda.
One of the main results of our restricted meeting was the approval of several projects and statements we will unveil at the news conference after this meeting.
Speaking of the Russian chairmanship in 2017, we were guided by our concept, which was supported by all participating countries. With our close and productive cooperation, most of the issues and goals that we set for ourselves have been attained.
