The 9th BRICS summit in Xiamen, China, has emphasized the proximity of positions of the member states on the current global problems. It demonstrated that over the last 10 years BRICS has grown into a full-fledged international mechanism for global cooperation.
The main outcomes of the BRICS summit in China are reflected in the final Declaration which outlines the common goals of ensuring equal multilateralism of political and economic affairs, and global security on the basis of international law and the principles of the UN Charter. It also condemns military interventions and unilateral sanctions, which violate international law.
The leaders of the BRICS countries are united in their assessments of the situation in the Middle East, Africa as well as Afghanistan and Iraq. The Russian efforts in providing for a sustainable solution of the Syrian crisis were welcomed. As for the situation around the DPRK, the leaders unanimously underlined their commitment to resolve this crisis by diplomatic means only, including by launching the direct negotiations between the parties concerned.
The discussions at the summit also demonstrated the growth of the diverse and mutually beneficial cooperation between the BRICS countries, what contributes to a more equitable and democratic world order.
